Exhibit Celebrates Raptor Stars of Movies

ROSS Exhibit Main

Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light. – Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban

Raptors – Starring in Books, Movies and Nature

Raptors of the Silver Screen was launched during Thanksgiving 2011 to celebrate the opening of the first Guardians of Ga’ Hoole movie and the last Harry Potter movie. In 2017, we changed the name to Fantastic Birds and Where to Find Them after the new J.K Rowling frahchise. These movies feature owls prominently and contain factual and fictional depictions of owl’s natural behaviors. The exhibit explores some of these inconsistencies and features owls that were part of the movies.  The goal is to connect children and adults to the natural world through their love of reading and going to the movies.

Fly, you fool!  -Twilight, Guardians of Ga'Hoole
Put a mouse in it!  (Often told to Otulissa) Guardians of Ga'Hoole

The Great Tree, reminiscent of the owl’s destination in the Guardians of Ga’Hoole 15-book series and movie, is home to four resident owls that live here teach us about natural history and what is fact and what is fiction in the book series.

Nothing like a nighttime stroll to give you ideas. – Mad-Eye Moody, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

This exhibit also serves as the entrance to the amphitheatre, the site of the Talons Summer Flight Show, so will be closed on Saturdays and Sundays in the summer months to accommodate this exciting program.

Your children can explore these and other movie raptors in our Kids for Conservation Summer Camp, Fantastic Birds and Where to Find Themn. Click here to register and for more information.
